August 12th, 2008 edition of The Daily Sauce: Food and Wine. Visit Our Food and Wine Archive. Local Team Scoops Knowledge Bowl There are no pot and pans, no cook-off, no hot burners. Only sheer culinary knowledge is needed to compete in the Baron H. Galand Knowledge Bowl. Since 1992, teams of chefs from around the country have competed in the Jeopardy-style contest sponsored by the American Culinary Federation. Much like a spelling bee, teams compete at one of four regional levels before advancing to the big national event at the federation’s annual convention. This years shindig was held on July 15 in Las Vegas, and for the second time in three years, The Chefs de Cuisine of St. Louis team took the gold. Congratulations and cheers go to: Mary Boehne, co-captain, a graduate of Forest Park Community College Brian Horton, co-captain, a student at Forest Park Community College Charlie Conners, a graduate of the University of Dayton and currently a student at Forest Park Community College Reagan Irwin, a student at Forest Park Community College Coaches Joe Mueller, CEC, executive sous chef at The Gatesworth, and Vicki Davenport, instructor at L’Ecole Culinaire. Sauce pick: Congratulations to The Chefs de Cuisine of St. Louis |
