August 6th, 2008 edition of The Daily Sauce: Food and Wine. Visit Our Food and Wine Archive. Such a Deal Last year, over 15,000 of you supped downtown during the annual Downtown Restaurant Week. Next week, DRW turns four and promises to be just as popular as past years. As always, it’s a great time to check out new eateries and rediscover old favorites. Newcomers this year include Fifteen, and Burger Bar, Asia and House of Savoy at Lumiére Place Casino. The restaurants each have a set menu, but don’t think they plan to serve mundane food to the masses; this is their opportunity to show off their signature styles. For instance, An American Place offers seven entrée choices – like zucchini-crusted walleye and local pork loin – while Mike Shannon’s gives you 12 choices, including its famous dry-aged prime steaks. Rosemount Estate is a co-sponsor this year, so restaurants will offer specific wines for $7 a glass. Like last year, diners have the option of adding a $5 “Extra Helping” donation to their dining bill to benefit Operation Food Search; the 2007 DRW raised $6,000 for the food charity. But the real story is that, despite the devastating increases in food costs, restaurants have incurred this year, DRW’s price has not increased since 2005.
