July 16th, 2008 edition of The Daily Sauce: Food and Wine. Visit Our Food and Wine Archive. Boulevard Beer Dinner We obviously like Boulevard’s Smokestack Series of interesting limited edition brews, or we wouldn’t have told you about it in May. Canadians obviously liked the Smokestack Series Saison bottle-conditioned ale enough to award it a gold medal at the prestigious Mondial de la bière festival in June. Newstead Tower Public House obviously likes the Smokestack Series so much that tonight its hosting a dinner planned around all four beers. That crisp, citrusy Saison will be paired with an appetizer of green beans, roasted beets, field greens with candied nuts and lemon vinaigrette. The Double-Wide India Pale Ale will pair well with roasted leg of lamb and Ozark mushrooms while the braised duck and goat cheese ravioli should complement the strong Belgian-style ale, The Sixth Glass. By the time that dense flourless chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream rolls around, you’ll be sipping on the sweet, creamy golden ale known as Long Strange Tripel. Sauce pick: The Boulevard Smokestack Series Beer Dinner Price: $45 per person. Reservations required Where to get it: Tonight – 7 p.m., Newstead Tower Public House, 4353 Manchester Ave., St. Louis Info: 314.535.7771 or www.newsteadtowerpub.com |
