July 10th, 2008 edition of The Daily Sauce: Food and Wine. Visit Our Food and Wine Archive. Vive la Révolution! Whether you lived in England or France, the 18th century was not a good time to be a monarch, what with all that talk of independence, citizenship and inalienable rights. Not to mention all those heads rolling and muskets firing. We declared independence from the Brits in 1776, while the French stormed the Bastille on July 14, 1789, thus triggering their own revolution. Ahh, those were heady days. The folks at Chaumette Vineyards and Winery in Ste. Genevieve understand the river town’s French roots and plan to celebrate big time this Saturday with the third annual Fête de Chaumette. The day-long festival celebrates wine, food, arts and music from 16 regional wineries, 12 food producers, and 14 local craftspeople and retailers. As this is a family event, there’ll be no guillotining, just apple bobbing, turtle racing and kite flying. Now that’s enlightening. Sauce pick: Chaumette Vineyards & Winery’s Third Annual Fête de Chaumette Price: The event is free, but there’s a $20 parking fee. Where to get it: Sat., July 12 – 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Chaumette Vineyards & Winery, 24345 State Route WW, Ste. Genevieve Info: www.chaumette.com or 573.747.1000 |
